The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) have launched an interactive digital learning platform designed to improve the knowledge of tour guides, tour operators and others within the tourism value chain.
The innovation, known as ‘Ghana Gurus Tourism E-learning Platform’ is a resource project to equip and empower all stakeholders to promote Ghana as a preferred tourism destination on continental Africa and across the globe.
The learning platform is comprised of three fundamental and four proficiency modules which tour guides, operators, and other stakeholders have to complete. “At the end of the course, participants can take a quiz and receive a certificate upon the successful completion of the course.
Tourism Minister, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, addressing dignitaries at the launch of the platform said the innovation would help to extend Ghana’s quest to remain relevant and to draw tourist’s attention even within this COVID-19 period.
She advised stakeholders of the tourism industry to take advantage of the numerous opportunities technology presents to them as the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way business is transacted in the broader tourism industry.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr Akwasi Agyeman noted that the platform would help to consolidate all necessary tourism information on Ghana into a single website.
“Currently we have bit and pieces of information from demography, heritage, culture and history about our country, scattered on several websites. The Ghana Gurus portal is a solution to consolidate all those information about Ghana onto one platform and to serve as an educational initiative for tourism stakeholders and the diaspora at large” Mr Agyeman said.
He added, “the e-platform will provide patrons with information to know about Ghana and properly sell it as preferred tourism destination. Being a guru means you are a master of the trade.”
The platform according to the GTA is opened to all persons, particularly tour guides, tourism stakeholders and students at large.
