I never felt that the midrange was recessed. Only been listening a few hours, but damn, these are pretty great. I suppose you could describe it as bright, but I've not felt harshness on treble-heavy tracks such as "Reckoner" by Radiohead or Melodrama by Lorde (that whole album sweet lord). FiiO has been rather transparent on their website as to what exactly they are using inside the FH7 for these particular drivers. Yet people spend hundreds, thousands, even hundreds of thousands on setups for a reason: to enhance their enjoyment of music (and to flex on plebs). I found the FH7’s to equal or be in the same league to these relative to openness, balance, fun and soundstage (obviously each of these excel in one or more specific performance criteria relative to each other & and the FH7’s) .
